It distresses me to have to pass on the sad news that Prof. Gerd Heppke from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, has passed away on June 4th at the age of 82. Prof. Heppke was a distinguished researcher in the field of liquid crystals and an excellent teacher of Physical Chemistry. I am sure he will be missed by many colleagues and friends.
